VCU has taken down the ninth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers 6-2 in an incredible home upset! This marks the fifth win in a row for the Rams, and VCU’s first win over Virginia after losing the last ten meetings dating back to 2022. The Rams will look to carry this momentum into their home series against George Washington this Friday, while the Cavaliers will take one day off before looking to bounce back in a home series against the Clemson Tigers.

Virginia was the first to strike, as Junior CF AJ Gracia notched his 11th home run of the season in the first inning. The Cavaliers went ice cold after that however, as they would not score again until the eighth inning. VCU played an incredibly scrappy game of baseball, capitalizing with 6 runs off of their 9 hits, in comparison to UVA’s 2 runs off of 12 hits. The VCU starting lineup drew 5 walks in Tuesday’s game, and the bullpen was lockdown after Gracia broke the 0-0 tie early on.

VCU CF Michael Petite smoked a rocket to left field for his 11th home run of the season in the fifth inning, becoming just the 17th player in Rams’ history to attain this accomplishment. Virginia threatened to claw back into the game in the top of the ninth, with Sam Harris singling to left field to kick off the frame and getting a baserunner on for the Cavaliers. VCU reliever Zachary Peters would not allow any runners to cross however, striking out RJ Holmes to end the game and strand two runners on.

WP: Dawson Newman (3-1)

LP: Christian Lucarelli (1-2)

TheRundownPod Player of the Game: VCU CF Michael Petite (1-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 R)
